This is pure happiness during a trip to Skateland USA!

This is pure happiness during a trip to Skateland USA! Rosebud photobombed the picture after a few minutes of begging her to join Miles and I for a a selfie. Skateland USA in Anderson was opened in 1981 and still looks like like 1981 on the inside. I remember going there as a kid for church trips and school trips!

Dr. McNair and importance of understanding African American Children’s Literature

If you have not met Dr. Jonda McNair from Clemson University, you are missing an opportunity to truly learn about African America Children’s Literature. This past Thursday evening, we were invited to hear Dr. McNair read a few children’s books written by well known African American Children’s Literature authors, an experience that was so much more than being exposed to great books. We were among twenty families from the community invited to the Anderson County Library, one of only two white families in attendance. From the moment we sat down, and Dr. McNair began sharing her experience and the books she was going to read, we knew we were thankful for the invitation. Rose was able to pick ten books we would have never thought of choosing; books with a different way of telling a story…many stories new for Sarah and I to read. I have to admit, Sarah and I encouraged Rose to choose a few books for our own exploration and enjoyment. I just know that as we raise Rose, we are intentionally teaching her to “break bread” with people beyond her own "skin." #Canon #5dmarkiii #Rosebud
