Have you ever wondered what freedom looks like…well here is an opportunity to look right inside where many would consider their passage to freedom. In 2006, I rode in this van from Altar, Mexico along a 60 mile dirt road to Sasabe, Mexico. I was able to join a group of individuals traveling from all over Mexico and Central America to Altar, Mexico; the last stop along their journey before they crossed into the United States of America.
You never know what is trapped inside a smile…it can be a mystery. I am not sure why my new friend did not want to smile for the camera, but she definitely did not lack the ability to smile.
Most people have a perception of poverty based on the outside looking in. Do we as white privileged individuals really know what poverty looks like, feels like, and sounds like?
I met an amazing woman this morning, a strong lady with a powerful story of survival…overcoming all odds. Her expression in this image matches her inner desire to achieve her dreams and #DefyTheLie … she not only survived a abusive relationship, she has transformed her life! I totally enjoy our work with Safe Harbor!

I had the wonderful opportunity to meet Tahz Rufus Walker today of the Come to the Table Project funded by The Duke Endowment. Come to the Table is a program that engages the faith community in identifying and supporting initiatives that relieve hunger and sustain local agriculture.
On Tuesday, Mark and I spent the day in Townville working with the Fork Rescue Squad and many of the other first responders. We are in the middle of a production raising awareness for the signs of stroke in South Carolina. We spent all day getting to know these men and women, their passion for their work, and their commitment to Townville.

I was amazed that when I received an email this morning from PRNews and read the article entitled “5 Ways to Make Your Facebook Videos More Engaging,” I was disappointed the authors (@ebethsorrell & @ianwright0101) did not even talk about true engagement, or real tactics to increase engagement.
PRSA has got to get away from taking the same ole topics then plugging and playing the same marketing/pr boiler plates into recommendations for the membership. So let’s talk about engagement and how to really increase engagement with video on Facebook.
