Ministering at the corner of Boulevard Baptist Church and the world is a big statement for a church that has a congregation of roughly 500 people in Anderson, SC. Ellen Sechrest truly believes in this statement fundamentally and each day seeks more missional ways to carry out that goal at Boulevard Baptist Church.
Have you ever wondered…what does it mean to be a member of a church. This is a common assumption, question, and phrase here in the southern part of the United States. This is usually the first question when you meet someone here in Anderson, SC; it is a part of the introduction pleasantries.
Hi
How are you?
My name is …
Nice to meet you …
What church do you go to?
Ok…we are members of this church.
It takes a village…it truly takes a village. I am sitting here completely overwhelmed and overjoyed.
First of all, on this Father’s Day…I was able to have the whole family in one place. We were able to take Rosebud to the NICU and spend time with the twins. Even though we had only fifteen minutes in the room with Rose, it was the most precious fifteen minutes I can remember.
Home means so many things to so many people. I think back when I was working in Phoenix, and people would ask…where is your home? I would say Clemson. Now, when people ask where is home, I say Anderson, SC.
When I think of our home, I think of our 100 year old home. We think it is around 100 years old, at-least that is what the public records show…dating back to around the 1920’s.
There is nothing better than a good ole fashion pounding, something I had never heard of before this past week.
“Pounding” is a tradition where a church family stocks the new pastor’s pantry and refrigerator with food. The custom dates back to the original Quakers
It is amazing the connectivity of a church and a community. Here we are celebrating the 70th birthday of a dear friend Mrs. Sarah Sprague. She has taken on the role as teacher, connector, leader, and even grandmother to many of our children.
She has served Anderson University, Boulevard Baptist Church, and the Anderson community both within the city limits and as far as China. She is one that I am most appreciative of our relationship and her connective energy is representative of so many in the room celebrating.
Happy Birthday Mrs. Sarah Sprague!
