It is time to embrace: Eat, Sleep, Poop, & Repeat #twinslife

It is the second night home and the routine is starting to find it’s balance…balance and routine are important words to consider. Bringing twins home is like nothing I have ever experienced. It is so much fun, so challenging, and so exhausting…let’s be frank, I am tired! But is is a happy, peaceful tired. When Rosebud came home, Sarah and I helped each other feed, change her diapers, put her on a schedule, etc. I am starting to learn and embrace what every family that has had twins shared with me…it is a bit overwhelming and exhausting. It takes both of us to handle both of the twins. With Rosebud, there were two sets of hands for just one child; now there are two sets of hands assigned individually to each child. Those hands are assigned a schedule.

The schedule is every three hours, specifically 12am 3am 6am 9am 12pm 3pm 6pm 9pm Then start over again. Each hour, both need diapers changed, bottles prepared, then both fed a bottle within 20-25 minutes. George and Henry are different sizes and weights, meaning they get two different amounts in their bottles. Both of them drink the bottle differently, specifically George needs more attention like a preemie and Henry feeds like a newborn. You have to hold George a specific way so the milk does not go directly down their throat…so we hold him in a way to allow the milk to fall into his cheek. Both of them require pacing with special attention to consistent burping, their tummies are still learning the new formula and the volume of milk in a 25 minute span. Last night was a first, Henry had a little baby fit screaming for 10 minutes straight. We think he did not get a good burp during his 9pm feeding, so his stomach hurt….so we fed him a bit early to let the sucking action help sooth his tummy allowing him to work out the air bubbles. We graduated from NICU University at GHS and now game is on at the Rettew household. It is time to embrace the village of visitors who want to see them for the first time while maintaining the schedule. #GameON #Patience #TwinsLife
