The Pound Cake Man

Storefront Stories

Jeff Bennett, known as The Pound Cake Man, started baking cakes about twenty years ago and now serves cakes to people all over the upstate. His physical bakery is located in the heart of Clemson, SC, but he also has a food truck that can be found in various locations around Upstate South Carolina. He started baking pound cakes while he was in the video business and bought his truck about five years ago to serve his cakes to the community. In addition to his bakery in Clemson, he is planning on opening a location in Greenville and Anderson.

He created his business with the community in mind. He cares about the community, and because of his customers’ suggestions, he now serves over eighty flavors of cake with gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan options available.

Jeff Bennett offers this piece of advice: “If you have an idea, just go for it.” His business and the success it has experienced show the benefits of taking a dream or an idea and putting in the effort to make it happen.

Make sure to stop by The Pound Cake Man Bakery or visit the food truck for some of the best pound cake in the Upstate!

This video story was crafted and produced by digital media students from Anderson University’s Communication Program. As an Assistant Professor of Communication and owner of Rettew Creative, Bobby Rettew led a team of students in the COM 351 Corporate Video Production class to create these stories. This project provided a unique opportunity where students were able to leverage their technical video production skills along with enhancing their soft skills by interacting with clients and connecting with the downtown Anderson business community.

Each class Bobby Rettew shares, “Video production is more than the technical knowledge necessary to capture the story, but also the culmination people management skills and the ‘Tetris’ game of managing all the stakeholders calendars. To find and tell stories, you must know how to work with people and meet them where they are!”
