The Fashion Shack

The Fashion Shack is a long standing, locally owned Anderson business that serves the community by reselling designer brands at a discounted price. Owner Beth Pierce and family have a passion for reaching their community and creating a space where men, women, and children alike can express themselves through fashion. It was an incredible opportunity to partner alongside the business and be a part of their story. The dedication and persistence of Beth and her store is evident in the midst of this pandemic, and we are proud to stand alongside her and share her storefront story.

This video story was crafted and produced by digital media students from Anderson University’s Communication Program. As an Assistant Professor of Communication and owner of Rettew Creative, Bobby Rettew led a team of students in the COM 351 Corporate Video Production class to create these stories. This project provided a unique opportunity where students were able to leverage their technical video production skills along with enhancing their soft skills by interacting with clients and connecting with the downtown Anderson business community.

Each class Bobby Rettew shares, “Video production is more than the technical knowledge necessary to capture the story, but also the culmination people management skills and the ‘Tetris’ game of managing all the stakeholders calendars. To find and tell stories, you must know how to work with people and meet them where they are!”

We have plants large and small, so whatever your need, we’ve got you covered. From ancient air plants to tiny cacti and styles from classic to eclectic, you’ll find just what you’re looking for! Do you love plants and want to get your hands dirty? Donna hosts Make n’ Take classes for 8 – 35 attendees with a variety of themes. She hosts both public and private parties.

Donna LeBrun is the owner and graduated from the University of Florida in 2004 with a Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture. She worked at Halback Design Group in St. Augustine and Basham and Lucas Design Group in Jacksonville as a landscape designer, with a focus on Residential and Large-Scale Neighborhood projects, including planting plans for Entryways, Amenity Centers, Model Homes, and Common Spaces.. She established LeBrun Designs, Inc. in 2007 upon the birth of her first child and focuses on residential and commercial properties. Donna and her family moved to Anderson, South Carolina in April 2012 and has established her design presence in the Upstate.

In 2009, Donna started Potted Gardens as a way to further connect with clients with entry gardens for their residential or commercial use. Her work with Potted Gardens varies greatly in scale from large containers to miniature gardens. It is a green alternative for floral gift-giving and has also evolved into a successful platform for hosting social and workshop events.

She LOVES plants and sharing her passion with adults and children. One of her biggest loves is getting children excited about plants. She has lead the Concord Elementary Garden Club since 2015 and was instrumental in the installation in the schools’ ABC Garden in April 2015. She has also enjoyed being a guest speaker at several Upstate Garden Clubs, hosting discussions on new concepts in garden design and developing community interest in garden projects.

Tracie Starr Home

After 30 years away, Tracie Starr is home. Tracie grew up in Williamston before moving away with her family. Now, she’s “home” and is the owner of Tracie Starr Home, a home goods store in downtown Anderson, to share her excitement for style and good design.

“I started sewing, teaching myself to design curtains and do that and my friends would ask me to help them, and that became a love for decorating and making my house a home,” Starr said about her decision to leave a career in mortgage processing. “So, when it came to this point in my life, I’m sitting at my job and I’m thinking, I don’t want to do this the rest of my life, so what can I do that gives me passion?”

The Local Uptown, formally known as the Uptown Lounge, is a neighborhood hangout since 1971 offering burgers, beers & mixed drinks, plus pool & a patio. They have used this time during business closures of COVID-19 to renovate inside and out for a new look and a fresh beginning!
